You’ll need three bowls for this one. Truthfully, you could add a whole bunch of variations to these, so, feel free to get creative! Or simply follow along and you’ll be satisfied. I’ve listed a few options of other ingredients that you could add if you’re feeling adventurous!

If you are feeling adventurous, here are some creative additions you can make:

  • add salt and pepper to Bowl #1
  • add lime to Bowl #1
  • add Apple Cider Vinegar to Bowl #1
  • add onion powder to Bowl #1
  • add Paprika to Bowl #2
  • add Cilantro to Bowl #2
  • add Turmeric to Bowl #2
  • add crushed nuts, like pepitas or cashews to Bowl #3
  • add parsley to Bowl #3

Breaded Tempeh Recipe

Ingredients

Bowl #1

  • 1/2 lemon
  • 1/2 tsp garlic granules
  • 1 Tbsp tamari

Bowl #2

  • 1 Tbp flour gluten-free or all purpose
  • 1 Tsbp ground flax
  • 1/2 cup water

Bowl #3

  • 1 cup bread crumbs
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp pepper
  • 1/4 tsp garlic granules

Instructions

  1. Prepare all three bowls. Bowl #2 needs time to let the ground flax settle so it adheres better, so there is no harm in prepping these bowls ahead of time while Bowl #1 marinates.

  2. Slice the tempeh into small thin squares. I usually cut it into small squares and then cut each square lengthwise so they are thinner.

  3. Place the sliced tempeh into Bowl #1 and let marinate for 10-15 minutes (or up to 2 hours in the fridge).

  4. Once marinating has finished, set up Bowl #2 and Bowl #3 for dunking.

  5. Take each square of tempeh from Bowl #1 and, on by one, place into bowl #2, mix the tempeh squares well.

  6. Then take that tempeh square and roll it in the contents of Bowl #3.

  7. Once it has been coated thoroughly in Bowl #3, take place on a baking sheet.

  8. Repeat until all the tempeh squares are coated.

  9. Bake for 15 minutes on one side, then flip and bake for another 15 minutes, for a total of 30 minutes.
